IGE INITIATIVE
UNNAT NEPAL
UNNAT Nepal, (Uplifting & Nurturing Nepal All Together) was registered in 2017 following the devastating earthquake, which struck Nepal on April 25, 2015. The earthquake resulted in the loss of many lives, destruction of homes as well as many historical places and other infrastructure, and greatly impacted the economy.
The quake devastated the physical and cultural infrastructure of the country’s already suffering education system. A total of 6,000 schools were destroyed and thousands more damaged.
The earthquake left almost 1.4 million children out of school - 700,000 of them girls vulnerable to trafficking, early marriage or being forced into domestic work. A huge number of the 1.4 million remained out of school a year after the earthquake, which deprived them of their education.

OUR MISSION
Our mission is to work towards the development of the country and welfare of its people. Development programs will be in all sectors such as education (human values-based), health, environment, job-creation, rural development, spiritual awareness programs, etc.
All the programs will be conducted free of charge and the priority population will be disadvantaged citizens of Nepal (for e.g., those who are left behind, such as people from the lower castes, girls, people from remote places, orphans, senior citizens, young adults needing support, etc.).

OUR VISION
Our vision is a developed Nepal where citizens have access not only to the basic needs (such as food, water, clothing and shelter) but have opportunities for good education, healthcare and awareness programs leading to healthy, happy and peaceful lives. We envision a Nepal where there is equal opportunity and justice for all (including animals). Our vision also includes a Green Nepal where people respect Mother Nature and lead healthier and eco-friendlier lives toward a sustainable and prosperous Nepal from the ground up.

UNNAT NEPAL SOCIETY
GOALS
PROVIDE CLEAN WATER
Since the earthquake many water sources have been disrupted and people are walking for hours to go to water source. (Discussed Potters Without Borders). Pipelines are being considered in certain areas, but funding is needed.
HEALTHCARE
Provide Healthcare to individuals and families in the villages.
EDUCATION
Education with focus on English, computers, access to internet and technology.
OUTREACH SERVICES
Outreach services to some of the 50,000 children orphaned throughout Nepal.
ASSISTANCE TO VILLAGES
Assistance to villages in their self-sufficiency by using solar-powered electricity and to introduce regenerative agricultural programs.
RECONSTRUCTION
Organizing the reconstruction of village schools damaged by the earthquake.
PROVIDE MEALS
Provide meals to children who travel 1 hour each way to school, often with nothing to eat.
CLOTHING
Provide clothing for students - Often families are too poor to buy clothes for their children. It is recognized that if a child is given one new outfit a year, they will happily go to school.

Since 2018, UNNAT Nepal has adopted a public primary school in a remote part of Nepal called Dhading. It is about 50 km from the capital, Kathmandu. The name of the school is Sitamai Primary School, established in 2010. The school is in Chepang village where one of the underprivileged (so called ‘backward’ caste), community Chepangs live. The school has grades Kindergarten to 3 with a total of 47 students. UNNAT Nepal is also helping with the reconstruction of their school.
IGE has partnered with UNNAT Nepal to help to raise funds for their projects, including providing lodging for homeless children, and to assist them with future educational initiatives.
A team was put together with volunteers from Nepal and Canada to deliver an 8-week online course to teach English in 2016. Technical assistance was provided to support face to face interaction with the 12 students who participated.
All the students successfully completed the program and IGE Directors Dorothy Argent, Wendy Schabrel and Sri Ram Challa personally presented the certificates of completion to the students on February 26, 2017, at the Paradise Self Study Centre in Kathmandu.
Donations are greatly appreciated.
